Sentence Exercise 1

1. Select from the work (in the following order) a sentence that is hard to understand OR full of difficult words OR very rich in meaning.

2. Briefly state what you think you understand about the sentence.

3. State what you do not understand about the sentence... or what some reader who is weaker than yourself may not understand.

4. Through research (in the dictionary and in talking with parents, siblings or friends), try to understand the sentence more fully. Report briefly on what you have found, citing your sources.

5. Explain the role of this sentence in the passage as a whole. How does this one idea relate the the big idea of the entire work?

How long should it be? 1-2 typed pages.
