Mrs. Liesenfelt
Dear, dear where can I begin?
My life was a whirlwind from the start -
the progression of childhood made wonderful
by Rena Ullrich, who lived across the street...
but that was so long ago.
And then it happened that time passed (as it usually does)
and we went our separate ways...
And would you know, that we each got married
and became next door neighbors?
It was all worthwhile -
to be the cordial secretary
of the Seminary
and as the Sergeant of the House,
laying out the battle plan for the week
for how to best attack the laundry, schoolwork, or meals!
That often drew a smile
from my two boastful boys and my little girl...
it's always hardest for the baby sister!
I was one myself,
making my daughter even more a part of me
shopping and talking and laughing
And oh the times we had,
Rena's crew and mine...
the Friday nights we played bridge and euchre,
the World Series games in the shared backyards!
But alas, old habits are hard to break -
especially the bad ones
that don't seem all that harmful
and I never quit and things grew slower.
And I got older holding out
on a destroyer from within
leukemia.
Yet I'd never forget
the adventures on the sledding hill
or huge sandcastles on the beach
And later, much later
on Halloween nights when I saw her grandchildren
in pumpkin or clown or puppydog costumes!
See what great experiences result
from the fellowship of one true friend!
