Mr. Spence

I apologize
for the behavior, I showed my girls.
My beautiful, bright, charming girls.
You never questioned,
when alcohol took me over.
Your mother won't miss all the fights,
the yelling, the screaming.
She wanted the best for you girls,
but I wasted money on my liquid of life.
My alcohol.
Although your mother won't miss me,
I sure as hell will miss you.
I finally know what I am saying -
the most sober thoughts I have ever known.
I am so very sorry,
that that chair was my only place.
I'm sorry that I never lived for you.
For your sakes.
The drinks kept me alive long enough to see you.
To see you shine.
I miss my chair.
It became my only comfort.
My only friend.
The tattered green velour.
The way it squeaked when I rocked.
The way that it held me up,
all of these years.
I am sorry that I drank myself into an oblivion.
I'm sorry girls.
Forgive me for my wasted life.
