8.1 done

a kind of relief, i guess, to know that my lake county jury duty is done... without having been done. i wasn't called back on tuesday or wednesday. i was called back in today and was certain that they'd have some use for me.

a few numbers (in the jury assembly room we're all just numbers) were called out first thing, and they were marched off to the coroner's inquest. lucky dogs, i thought. they get the death stories. i'll probably get neighbors suing over noise, errant pets, garbage. but no, not even that.

we sat for a couple hours...me reading maupin's The Night Listener, a few poems from phillip levine, a little bit of hirsch. and then they sent us home. no need to call in anymore. a slow week for jury trials in lake county.

i guess i'm a little disappointed. was hoping for a good story, if nothing else. something to show for this time (stop me quick before i continue with "well, life's like that...)

ten days to school. boy, that was some summer. i mean, yow, that was no summer at all. whoosh... there was the provincial chapter, a mess of walking, a little running, some visits to doctors, and this latest business. in between, some reading, eating, television, flowertending, email... well, life's like that...

We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done.
