12. mom

my mom is one of the best people in the world... i love her a lot... sometimes a close or casual observer might not be able to tell... but... i love her a great big bunch... ever since somewhere around my eighteenth birthday, i've lived far away from her... but she has always been with me... sometimes i forgot... thoughtless guy that i am... sad to say... some days i became so wrapped up in my own stuff that i'd get up in the morning and go to sleep at night without a conscious thought of her... so why am i guessing that not a day has gone by when she hasn't thought of me... even just a little... i don't know what it's like to have a kid... i sure don't know what it's like to have ten kids... just what it's like to be one... of the ten... but i know that i've been loved by somebody every day of my life... not just as one of the ten but as me... myself... one of a kind... and that has made all the difference...

thanks for everything, mom

You don't have to deserve your mother's love. You have to deserve your father's. He's more particular. . . . The father is always a Republican towards his son, and his mother's always a Democrat.
