21. snakes

taylor says it's a bull snake, and she might know... what would i know? nothing... except that, when i walked down to the lake and stood looking around for stuff to make pictures of, i heard them sliding on the rocks... i always hear them before i see them... and sometimes i never see them at all... they are very shy. but yesterday, easter sunday, they must have been having a good time on those warm stones... one slithered into the water like a kid off to clean his room... but the others hung around long enough for a photo op... these aren't great john murphy™ quality shots... but they provide sufficient data for identification... i think...

and my favorite... not the best shot... but the best moment... this critter slid away into the water... but instead of vanishing into the deeps, it popped back up for another look... at me... probably wondering if i am worth the trouble for it to crawl back up and bite me...

we are trusting that poison is not an issue... but it is only trust... since we are stupendously uninformed about these matters...

i've got other non-herpetological pictures... and maybe more words ...

The world of men is dreaming, it has gone mad in its sleep, and a snake is strangling it, but it can't wake up.
