some force has
kept the deer off long enough for tulips to come... here are
some pictures tweaked a bit in photoshop... remember to close
each window before opening a new one...
more nature notes: this morning's
walk finds the burnt black spots in the field already sprouting
tiny green bits... but the whole place reeks of that burning...
a white egret flew over and flapped down on a barren treetop
over by the pond... two ducks flew up low... i saw one's beak
quacking as it flew... birds seem to enjoy the burnt places today...
by the pond a new grey-brown bird blurts up from the base of
reeds and vanishes down again with a beautiful worried song...
black deerleg in the tree is doing fine... the damp grey air
solidifies color versus the way a bright day evaporates it...
or so it seems to me... when the mourning doves fly their wings
go all purply iridescence... bright red buds on the hawthorne
(?) trees... some of the new trees seem dead already... sticks
propped in mud... some of the old ones too... but this newbie
has green sprouts on its stumpy fingertips... and dom tells me
he's heard that the cougar's been spotted over on the seminary
grounds... one of the teachers was uncomfortable on the walk...
but i'm guessing that a cougar wants nothing to do with thirteen
hundred teenagers...
